Socks...again

What is it about socks and NEVER coming out of the laundry in PAIRS??

I put three pairs of white HANES socks in the laundry, and out came thre pairs, but one - only ONE sock was a HANES DRY!!! I checked my wife and daughters socks, and they don't have HANES DRY socks - not to mention their feet are much smaller than mine.

How does this happen? Aliens? Gnomes? Trolls? Sock Fairy?

Got a take on this too, as I've been there way too often.
Two "confirmed" theories are out there, and here they are:

1) Socks tend to pick up magnetic charges. Shuffle you feet across a floor and touch a doorknob.
They are usually 1 positive AND 1 negative, but in rare cases (due to global ley line activity) they will BOTH be imbued w/ a like charge. In which case, one of them will remain in the hamper, or just refuse to get near ANY other sock.

2) The centrifical force of the dryer tub creates a situation much like that cyclotron in France (super-collider), meaning that quantum particles will shift polarity and jump from OUR dimension into another (as long as the 220V dryer is cycling normally...and the cell-phone doesn't ring).
If you stop the dryer to check the clothes, this can often force a phase shifting of a sock (or some other small article of paired clothing...it has to be in PAIRS) which will keep it in the VORTEX until the next time the dryer is used.
The sock may return...it may not. Stephen Hawking is STILL crunching the numbers on this one.

My take is that if you run a blender in close proximity of the dryer, you can reverse this phase shift, thereby making the sock REAPPEAR.

(I'll let you know this weekend when I do the laundry)

(As for the gnomes, they only take UNDERWEAR - NEVER socks)

Your option #2 seems to be the most logical explanation yet! I wonder if I could commission somebody to test our theories?
